SUMMARY

Los Angeles Mission has an opening for an experienced and motivated Director of Human Resources to oversee Human Resources activities in the organization. The successful candidate will demonstrate Christ-like behavior and attitude in all job duties and responsibilities. In collaboration with the President and members of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Human Resources provides excellent care and services to the employees of the Los Angeles Mission (LAM).

The Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization?s mission and talent strategy.

The Director manages and coordinates organization-wide efforts to ensure that performance management and talent development programs are developed and managed using a data-driven focus that sets priorities for improvements aligned to ongoing strategic imperatives. Prior experience in a religious organization is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

? Collaborates with the C-Suite and Senior Executive Leadership Team to understand the organization?s goals and strategies related to personnel, recruiting, retention policies, and procedures, while overseeing the Human Resources department to implement such goals and strategies.

? Work closely with Executive Management and consult with the Board of Directors in decision-making and organizational development.

? Prepare and submit board reports as needed.

? Develop, initiate, and maintain effective programs for workforce retention, coaching and development, promotion, and succession planning.

? Ensure that organization-wide talent and performance management initiatives are focused and aligned on improving operational and program efficiencies and effectiveness.

? Oversees the annual review process in collaboration with the members of the Senior Executive Leadership Team.

? Develop and deploy strategies for conducting and assigning trainings, making effective use of Learning Management System (LMS) and other systems as needed to meet organizational needs.

? Oversees Employee Relations; provides advice and counsel; oversee and maintains documentation and related procedures; contacts labor attorney as needed and in all termination matters.

? Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.

? Ensure the Human Resources staff maintains up-to-date job descriptions for all positions.

? Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for candidate documentation, interviewing, hiring managers? interactions, hiring and talent management. Oversees background checks for all hired personnel.

? Oversee the posting of open positions with recruiters, job boards, internet sites and internal website; leverage online recruiting resources to identify and recruit the best candidates. Provides complete, accurate, and inspiring information to candidates about the organization and position.

? Oversee the implementation of best practices for new-employee orientations and exit interviews.

? Serves as the liaison for payroll administration. Oversees HR communications with employees who have pay-related questions or concerns .

? Oversees the maintenance of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) records and compiles reports from database. Use data analysis to analyze reports and make informed decisions using effective data and reports.

? Lead in best practices for electronic filing of job descriptions and employee files

? Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as needed.

? Assists in the evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of the department in relation to board

? established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.

? Monitors and ensures the organization?s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.

? Serves as the liaison to the Benevolence Fund; Safety Committee; Staff Council and Wellness Committee.

? Participates in planning and production of employee-related events and activities.

? Develops and implements departmental budget.

? Assist the Development Department in understanding your area of LAM operations in order to create meaningful and accurate requests for funding that are consistent with your annual budget.

? Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.

? Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.

? Performs other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

? Ten or more years of nonprofit Human Resources experience required, preferably within a religious organization

? Bachelor?s degree from four-year College or University in management, Human Resources, or related field preferred

? Senior-level HR certifications a plus.

? Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and motivate employees

? Superior analytical and organizational skills

? Highly motivated and proactive

? Excellent written and oral presentation/communications skills

? Experience with Paychex or other HRIS preferred.

? Demonstrates the desire and ability to support Biblical and religious goals and participates in regular work-related spiritual activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to use a keyboard and mouse to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data information and/or move from screen to screen on the computer to view information. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
