Your role & work environment
We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer and/or experienced DevOps Engineer with experience in rolling out SRE best practices across multiple squads. Experience in having implemented high available services is key. The focus of your SRE activities will be to review microservice architecture and resilience patterns along critical IT banking services. Based on metrics & data, you turn your findings in concrete advice and proposals which will increase resilience over the chain of applications.
Our team is responsible for the reliability of ING’s IT services, which we do through a combination of software & systems engineering as well as enforcing best practices (Resilience patterns, Monitoring, Postmortems, etc.). We do this in a complex IT landscape with many interconnected applications. We use our influence to improve engineering, process and patterns for every service / component that is part of the application chains serving our customer journeys.
Your key responsibilities
[Architecture and drive]
- Great analytical skills and conceptual / architectural understanding
- Experience in complex application landscapes where you were a part of multiple application chains
- Experience & Ambition with developing high available microservices (uptime 24*7, 99.88%)
- Experience in coordinating improvement actions across teams and IT areas. Planning, stakeholder management etc.
[Reliability Engineering]
- Experience with Resilience patterns (backpressure, Circuit Breaker, deadlines, …)
- Experience & Ambition in Site Reliability Engineering and advocating SRE among peers
- Knowledge on Azure Resilience Pattern (or Any Cloud) and Standard Blueprint.
Nice to have]
- Experienced in Agile / Scrum / DevOps projects
- Experience and thorough understanding of continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines
- Experience with VM-based as well as container-based infrastructures
- Experience/knowledge with multiple testing techniques, especially in the fields of performance and resilience
- Knowledge on Resilience Testing Strategy with Capacity impact Analysis

- Bachelor / Master of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Solid grasp of one or more programming language, Linux, and scripting techniques
