An opportunity exists for an experienced legal researcher to join our National Library Services Team in the Perth office.

The Library Services team is seeking applications from a dynamic librarian or paralegal with significant experience in the provision of legal research. This role will be responsible for providing complex and specialist library and information services.

About the role
The Library Services team provides a highly valued service of legal research and resources to the lawyers and officers across the whole of the Attorney-General’s Department. This role will involve delivering high level, customer focused library services to AGS and department clients nationally. You will work on site in the Perth office and be expected to independently, efficiently and comprehensively manage reference enquiries in response to client requests.

In this role you will:
  • contribute to the delivery of a high quality and timely national legal research service using a reference management system (RefTracker)
  • be an independent and sole provider of reference services after 5pm east coast time
  • provide responses to requests for information of a specialised nature, by researching, analysing, evaluating and organising information to meet the needs of individual clients
  • support other team members to achieve excellent library service delivery nationally
  • undertake other administrative tasks as required.

This role is a part time position working 5 hours per day, Monday to Friday from 1 pm – 6 pm Australian Western Standard Time in the Perth office.

About you
Candidates for this position should have:
  • a minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting significant legal reference and research in a legal focused environment
  • high level knowledge of legal materials and their use
  • demonstrated ability in the use of legal resources, including both hardcopy materials and electronic legal databases
  • a willingness to take responsibility for tasks, work independently and flexibly to prioritise client needs
  • a team-oriented attitude and a collaborative approach to cross-team development
  • highly developed written and oral communication skills.
