Job Description


We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer to join our Sensor Systems team, within the R&D department. In this role, you will report to the Technology Manager | Sensor Systems and be based in our office in Leuven, Belgium.

Our Sensor Systems Team is responsible for the development of the electronic, illumination, and optical-imaging technologies, and their subsequent integration with and validation of the electro-mechanical, automation and software aspects of our TOMRA's sorting platforms.

You will be responsible for the:

  • Research, development, test, and evaluation of Systems technologies.
  • Support the development of systems technologies from concept to product.
  • Technical leadership and support to junior team members.
  • Cross-functional technical analysis, documentation & dissemination of results.
  • Promoting and maintaining good R&D practices and processes.

As part of the Sensor Systems team, you will work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. Each day will present a new opportunity to tackle new challenges bridging a range of technical fields (e.g. optics, automation, spectroscopy, data-analysis, electronics). The broad scope of work will give you the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of real time solutions to customers and participate in long-range R&D projects.


Qualifications


About you:

  • Degree in Engineering/Physics/Applied Science.
  • 4+ years of relevant industrial experience or post-graduate training.
  • Knowledgeable in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • applied science, automation, vision systems, optics, or spectroscopy.
  • Experienced in basic programming or modelling tools (e.g. Python).
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior team members.
  • Scientific mindset/methodology – a practical problem solver.
  • Readily able to convey complex concepts to senior leadership.
  • Team worker - at ease in high-performance multidisciplinary teams.
  • Open to travel to validate prototypes on site (domestic & international).
